Premature ejaculation occurs when a guy ejaculates before he or his partner would like during sexual intercourse. A frequent sexual issue is premature ejaculation. Estimates vary, but one in every three males reports having this difficulty at some point.
The release of sperm from the body is known as ejaculation. PE occurs when ejaculation occurs sooner than a man or his partner would want during sex. Premature Ejaculation, rapid ejaculation, and early ejaculation are all terms for Premature ejaculation. Premature ejaculation may not be a reason for concern. It can be aggravating if it makes sex less pleasurable and has an influence on relationships. If it occurs frequently and creates complications, your doctor can assist you.
How Does Ejaculation Work?
The central
nerve system regulates ejaculation. When males are sexually
stimulated, signals are sent to your spinal cord and brain. Signals are
delivered from your brain to your reproductive organs when males attain a
specific degree of arousal. As a result, semen is discharged through the penis
(ejaculation).
Ejaculation has
2 phases: emission and expulsion.
Phase 1: Emission
When sperm goes
from the testicles to the prostate and combines with seminal
fluid to form semen, this is referred to as emission. The vasa differentia is
tubes that assist transport sperm from the testicles to the base of the penis.
(When only one of these tubes is involved, it is referred to as a vas
deferens.)
Phase 2: Expulsion
Expulsion occurs
when the muscles at the base of the penis contract. This pushes the sperm out
of the penis. Ejaculation and orgasm (climax) usually occur together. Some guys
climax but do not ejaculate. Erections usually disappear after this stage.
Premature Ejaculation and Erectile Dysfunction (ED)
PE can be a
problem for guys who have erection issues (erectile dysfunction or
ED). This occurs when males are unable to obtain or maintain a hard adequate
erection for intercourse. Because an erection disappears after ejaculation, it
can be difficult to determine if the condition is PE or ED. The ED should be
addressed first. Once the ED is cured, premature ejaculation may not be an
issue.
Causes
Serotonin - Though
the precise and etiology of PE
is unknown, serotonin may be involved. Serotonin is a naturally occurring
chemical in your body that is produced by nerves. Serotonin levels in the brain
increase the time it takes to ejaculate. Low levels can cause PE by shortening
the time to ejaculation.
Psychological Issues
PE can entail
psychological or mental health difficulties, which may include:
·
Depression
·
Stress
·
unrealistic
expectations about sexual performance
·
Guilt
·
history
of sexual repression
·
lack
of confidence
·
relationship
problems
